Kia ora e te whānau, My name is Sylvia Reynolds, Whaea Sylvia to the students. I was brought up in Biggin Hill, Kent but have lived in New Zealand for over 20 years. If you have any connections with Wellington College you may know my husband, Martyn. We have two wonderful grown up children, David and Florence. I have many years teaching experience, in four different countries. It is my absolute delight and pleasure to be teaching in Pīwakawaka this year. I am looking forward to working with Year 2 students as well as welcoming new entrants to Mākara Model School.

I have spent the summer walking part of Te Araroa, the “long path” that stretches from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Last year, Martyn and I walked from Bluff to Wanaka. This year we completed Wanaka to Arthur’s Pass. Next year we hope to finish South Island.

My child based education philosophy means that I try to incorporate as much play as possible into the Piwakawaka programme. I also love to get outside as much as possible. I also strongly believe that education is a partnership, involving parents, teachers and child. So I encourage you to contact with me with any questions or information sylvia@mms.school.nz
