Ko Katrina Oliver toku ingoa. Our students call me Whaea Katrina.
I live in Thorndon with my partner, Chris. I have four grown up daughters and four beautiful mokopuna. In my spare time I love tramping in the bush, reading, history, writing and spending time with family.
I have been teaching at Makara Model School for almost 10 years now and love the friendly, whanau atmosphere. I started when the school was very small and had only one class, so I taught all levels then, but for the last few years have taught Karearea, the senior end of the school; this year that will be Years 6 - 8.
Because I teach multiple levels, students are often in my class for several years and we get to know each other very well. I am very proud of the students in Karearea, they are a very good hearted bunch, they are fun and enthusiastic and try their best to follow the Makara Way. Being respectful probably encompasses how our classroom rocks. Respectful of ourselves, of all others and our environment. The students always choose being respectful to be in our class treaty, we even wrote a rap about it last year!
